Neurodevelopmental Assessment
Psychological assessment can be helpful for informing decision making with developmental or mental health concerns. It is an investigative approach that helps identify some of the parameters around a problem. Some assessment takes place during intakes or counseling sessions as information over time is needed for diagnostic clarification. Neuropsychological or psycho-educational assessments as well as speech and language assessments are completed during separate appointments as they are thorough and require several hours. If you are not sure if you would benefit from an evaluation call and schedule a free consultation to help determine if it would be useful for you.
Developmental/Autism Assessment
A developmental assessment helps measure developmental progress and assesses abilities such as adaptive skills, communication, language, and cognitive abilities. Developmental assessments may include assessing for autism, developmental delays (e.g. communication, social skills, self-care), or motor skills screening.
Learning Disability/Educational Assessment
Learning disabilities occur most often in the areas of reading, writing, mathematics, and language. These may include problems such as dyslexia, reading comprehension difficulties, phonological processing deficits, spelling, dysgraphia, or dyscalculia. An educational assessment can help reveal which academic areas are impacted and which type of academic interventions may be necessary.
ADHD/Behavioral Disorders Assessment
This broad assessment area includes disorders such as ADHD, executive functioning deficits, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Conduct Disorder, and other behavioral disorders. In-depth assessment may inform treatment approach and intervention recommendations (e.g. coping skills training, family therapy, targeted behavior interventions, or specialized parent training).
Mental Health (Anxiety, Stress, and Depression)
Mental health assessment can include both screening and in-depth assessments. Assessments can be done for a variety of conditions including anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, or life stressors. These assessments can be scheduled or can take place during intakes or ongoing therapy sessions.

My Philosophy &
Approach
Mental health is a broad topic that often elicits a diverse range of emotions. Some might pay it no thought while others may be in a constant battle with various emotions. Since our earliest days, our brain has been forming complex thought webs that help us understand and interpret the world. With the myriad of connections it is no surprise that unhelpful patterns are formed. Like physical health, mental health exists on a continuum and each of us are at a different place. While not everyone has a broken leg, all of us experience challenging thoughts that have an impact on our functioning. This commonality allows us the space to have some understanding regarding what others are experiencing and encouragement to know we are not alone. It is also very “normalizing” knowing that everyone has mental health challenges. As humans we are not required to have perfect mental health–despite what popular headlines you have seen. And not all troublesome thoughts are maladaptive. My philosophy involves assisting the client in coming to an understanding and awareness of their thinking patterns, identifying what direction they would like to be going, and then helping them move in that direction.
In my approach to treatment, I utilize a variety of cognitive and behavioral strategies to help each client. In both assessment and treatment it is important for me to come to an understanding regarding the presenting problems and to provide the appropriate space for the client facing these problems. The foundation and bedrock of all of my interventions is the scientific evidence that supports them. In the profession this is know as evidence-based practice. While there are many strategies or practices that are evolving, my focus is on utilizing as primary treatments those that already have effectiveness demonstrated in the research. While this means there are no magical cures, you can have confidence that with continued focus and effort you will likely see imporvments in your life.
